One of the most gloriously unhinged games to come out of the last console cycle full stop, Deadly Premonition was never destined to be a big hit (developed as it was by little-known Japanese studio Access Games, and released by budget publishers across the world), but it has definitely earned its status as a cult classic. Mashing together the sort of survival horror elements seen in the early Resident Evils and Silent Hills with more than a few nods to surreal early nineties TV show Twin Peaks, it was destined for greatness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHMuwlchhmM It helps that the game itself is as singularly odd as its influences, with non-sequitur and dark humour fleshing out the open world murder mystery gameplay which includes, amongst other things, losing health if you don't get enough sleep or eat regularly. Just like in real life! The real centrepiece of strangeness, however, has to be the meal Francis York Morgan has with a local women which includes quick time instructions to press a button first to appreciate your surroundings, and then to show interest in the swirling pattern of your coffee.
