10 Ridiculous Rumours You Believed About Pokémon Games

2. Pikablu!

It€™s no secret that Pikachu is the most popular Pokémon out there, acting as the main mascot of the entire franchise. Even among those that have never touched a Pokémon game, or even watched the television series, Pikachu is a familiar face and one of the most famous fictional characters to emerge from the €˜90s. Because of this incredible popularity, there were a number of rumours that surrounded the famous critter. At the height of Pokémania in the West, the next generation of creatures were emerging over in Japan. The most notable of these new Pokémon was Marill, who could easily pass as a blue-coloured cousin of Pikachu. Images of Marill were circulating in the West, long before the eventual release of Pokémon Gold and Silver. Many young players of Pokémon Red and Blue assumed that Marill was actually a secret Pokémon in their game, giving it the nickname of €˜Pikablu.€™ The rumour was that, if you gave Pikachu or Raichu a Water Stone under specific circumstances, then it would evolve into the elusive Pikablu. Of course, there was absolutely no truth in this, and players eventually got their hands on their very own Marills with the arrival of the second generation.
