10 Ridiculous Rumours You Believed About Pokémon Games

7. You Can€™t Get Rid Of Pikachu

Pokémon Yellow Version was a (hugely successful) attempt to cash in on the success of the most popular Pokémon, Pikachu. The game went on to be the second most popular, non-bundled release for the Game Boy, behind the original games that kicked it all off in the first place. Among a few other minor aesthetic and gameplay changes, the most prominent addition to Pokémon Yellow was that you could only gain a Pikachu at the start of the game. Furthermore, this special Pikachu would follow you around outside of a Pokéball, with varying states of happiness. This starting Pikachu could not be evolved into a Raichu, much like the refusal of Ash€™s Pikachu in the anime series. This led to rumours that Pikachu simply could not be traded to other copies of Pokémon games. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how attached you were to the yellow critter,) it was more than possible to trade Pikachu. Once traded back again, you€™d lose your special companion forever, as it would then act like any other Pokémon, staying tight in its Pokéball and never following you around again.
