1. Alternate Realities, Drowning And Lighthouses (A.K.A. Now My Brain Hurts)
We challenge absolutely anyone to finish Bioshock Infinite and not spend the next three days trying to work out what you've just experienced. Both equally interesting and so very confusing at the same time, Infinite's climactic moments throw up so many reveals and so many twists that it's practically impossible to digest it all in one sitting. Perhaps the biggest reveal is that Booker, our protagonist, is in fact also the antagonist, Zachary Hale Comstock. In another reality, a reality where Booker was baptised after the battle of Wounded Knee and rechristened Comstock, he went on to be the founding father of Columbia, abducted Elizabeth to be his heir from an alternate version of himself in another reality and ruled over Columbia as it descended into madness. Booker meanwhile (your Booker, that is) is just one of many alternate timeline Bookers, each of which is represented by a lighthouse (Elizabeth takes us directly to these and shows us how multiple universes can always be connected - hence the name Bioshock: Infinite). With us so far? In order to undo the cycle of Booker potentially becoming Comstock - and the space time continuum being utterly screwed up as a result due to reality tearage or something to that effect - multiple alternate universe Elizabeths come to Booker at his baptism. To prevent the birth of Comstock, Booker sacrifices himself and allows the Elizabeths to drown him, thus erasing Comstock from the timeline altogether. It's a thought-proving narrative for sure and is one of the most intriguing endings in gaming history, but this one was really just something where we were along for the ride and were forced to figure it all out for ourselves afterwards. Multiple universes represented by lightouses, drowning to prevent alternate timelines, multiple versions of people and reality-bridging craziness? Sure, why not! This is Bioshock after all; we'd never accept anything less than a mind melter. What other utterly crazy moments were in the Bioshock series that really struck a chord with you?
