10 Ridiculously Macho Video Game Characters

9. War - Darksiders

The issue of over-design has perhaps never been more prevalent than with War, better known as the lumbering Horseman of the Apocalypse. He's not human, sure, but that whole "anatomical credibility" thing still holds water, especially when War is placed alongside his successor, Death, who flits about Darksiders 2 with ease. It's almost as if two artists were unknowingly designing the same character and, come deadline, smashed their works together - one a practical and historically faithful rendition of the most powerful of the Horsemen, and the other a collection of tin cans, tower bells, and dish rags. So here we are, playing as a sentient junkyard astride a no-doubt struggling steed. It's fortunate most of the game's bosses inflate the scale by picking their teeth with skyscrapers; otherwise, War would look a tad silly.

A freelance games writer, you say? Typically battling his current RPG addiction and ceaseless perfectionism? A fan of horror but too big a sissy to play for more than a couple of hours? Spends far too much time on JRPGs and gets way too angry with card games? Well that doesn't sound anything like me.
