10 Most Ridiculously Over-The-Top Examples Of Gaming Censorship
2. Twisted Metal Black
David Jaffe's demented car-combat game was one of the best titles to grace the PS2 in its early life. Its dark tone, huge, destructible levels and clever weapons made it the undisputed king of its genre. Sadly so much content was cut from the PAL version that it almost feels like a different game. All of the famously messed up story cut-scenes were removed, adding up to an hour of content in total. Story-related comments from the drivers were also removed from loading screens. Changes to the gameplay were also made. A plane can be shot down in the first level of the American version to reveal a new area. In the European version, it's already crashed when the level begins. Violence was also toned down in other areas. Drivers no longer exit their destroyed vehicles engulfed in flames, running round hysterically just waiting to get run over. The PAL version of Twisted Metal Black feels horribly incomplete. Dark, unsettling and sometimes funny cut-scenes are a staple of the series. Their absence makes the game feel like Mortal Kombat without its fatalities or Mario without mushrooms and kidnapped princesses.
