10 RPG Video Game Fates Worse Than Death
8. Cursed To Become A Wight - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Seeing people suffering fates worse than death is an average Tuesday for Geralt of Rivia. If you thought the expansion packs to the seminal third game in the trilogy would be any different, you'd never pass your Witcher Trials.
Of all the terrible fates in the series, one from the Blood and Wine DLC really stands out. That is the fate of Marlene de Trastamara, who was turned into a monstrous creature known as a Spotted Wight.
This unfortunate woman was a baron's daughter who loved to host parties, but her life was damned after she ran afoul of the terrifying Gaunter O'Dimm (oh god). After breaking Toussaint traditions by refusing to feed him, Dimm cursed her, turning her into a Spotted Wight.
She was told, "None shall sit and dine with you at your table, no spoon you have shall sate you, never again shall wish to spy your reflection in the mirror."
So, to put that simply, she is trapped in the body of a terrifying creature, scares everyone away (including her family), and cannot be satisfied by food, so she is forever hungry. It's a profoundly ironic punishment for a woman who loved parties.
If there's a lesson to learn here, it's not to mess with Gaunter O'Dimm.
