As Wander prepares to fight the sixteenth and final colossus, the bridge he's traveling on collapses, and his horse Agro throws him to safety while he falls, seemingly to his death, in one of gaming's most heartbreaking moments. This gives players the determination to destroy the final colossus, after which Lord Emon, who has been chasing Wander for the entire game, arrives and determines that he's been possessed by the dead due to his mutated physical appearance. Wander is stabbed to death, but the spirit of Dormin, now set free by all of the colossi having been killed, inhabits his body, turning him into a giant. Emon manages to defeat him, at which point Mono is revived, just as Dormin had promised Wander all along. At that moment, Agro hobbles into the temple to greet Mono, having miraculously survived his fall, and the two come across a horned baby boy which appears to be some sort of reborn version of Wander. Much of the game's storyline relies on speculation from the player, but the revelations that a) killing the colossi wasn't such a great thing and b) Agro was still alive, made this an extremely entertaining, artistic and satisfying ending, which brought the epic journey to a close in a startling and majestic fashion.
