Just like its name suggests, the next area to feature on this list is an old, dark chasm – and it’s just as pleasant as it sounds.

Accessed in Dark Souls 2 as an optional area tied to the Pilgrims of Dark covenant, which players can join by talking to a rather creepy old man found at three locations (Shaded Ruins, Black Gulch, and Drangleic Castle). After joining said covenant, offer him one of your precious Human Effigies and he’ll grant you access to the chasm in order to complete the challenges that lie within.

Gloomy and comprised of winding passages filled with narrow walkways and precarious drops, players brave enough to enter the chasm are required to defeat all the black phantoms that populate the area and light the sconces without dying.

Prove yourself to be skilled enough to make it to the end of each challenge and you’ll then be faced with your final test: defeating Darklurker, arguably the most challenging boss in the entire game.

If you want to experience the darkness that corrupts Drangleic, then the chasm is where you want to be.
