10 Scariest Enemies In Non-Horror Games

4. Kingfin And The Bonefins - Super Mario Galaxy

The Mario series has a surprising way of making undead enemies rather cute. Dry Bones, the skeletal Koopa Troopas, are quite endearing, if you don’t think too closely about the fact that they’re reanimated again and again, however many times Mario offs them, and forced to roam the flaming halls of Bowser’s domain forever.

Super Mario Galaxy, however, upped the ante in that regard with Kingfin. This hideous shark boss from the Bonefin Galaxy is designed along the lines of the sort of undead dragon you might encounter in the Dark Souls series, dispensing with some of the cutesy design aspects that are so characteristic of just about everything in the Super Mario series.

Kingfin looks genuinely menacing, and the Bonefin minions it summons, though much smaller, have the same glowing eyes when battling Mario. The fact that they attack en masse and can’t be damaged directly by Mario’s attacks aren’t very comforting in this whole situation either.

Kingfin is dispatched through swift assaults with thrown Koopa shells. Ultimately, it’s not a particularly difficult boss battle, but it’s certainly an unnerving one.
