10 Scariest Video Game Monsters
6. Big Daddy - Bioshock
There is no more eerily atmospheric game than the original Bioshock. Though the game isn’t technically a horror, many of its moments send shivers down its players’ spines simply because of its unique and disturbing setting, the underwater city of Rapture.
Being abandoned, claustrophobic, and on the brink of collapse, Rapture is the last place you’d want to be trapped in. Add Big Daddies into the mix and your nightmare has just become a hellscape.
The Big Daddies accentuate the atmosphere of Rapture perfectly. Their huge, bulky bodies look as though they could easily bring down the drowned towers of Rapture and still survive the impact. They’re definitely not something you’d want to fight at the bottom of the ocean.
The thing that makes them such effective boogeymen is that they never seem to want to attack the player unless provoked. If you trespass on their territory or bother their Little Sisters, they’ll chase you to the end of the world, but otherwise they’ll just stand there menacingly, carefully observing your every move. It puts the player on edge as they are trying to traverse the city.
There’s nothing more terrifying than knowing one wrong step will bring the wrath of a murderous heap of metal upon you.
