10 Seriously Misjudged Video Game Levels That Almost Made You Stop Playing
9. The Final Chase - Assassin's Creed III
How to end on the worst note possible, Assassin's Creed III will always be remembered as the first entry in the franchise that really didn't land well.
Case in point: Things like leaving such a poignant sour note as an ending chase sequence.
First up, you had one of the most tired and overcooked staples of the series that nobody enjoyed even back in the original instalment - the whole "pursue your target for a few minutes" parts - and then a series of truly pointless obstacles getting in the way.
From randomly exploding barrels to platoons of soldiers you weren't allowed to shove out the way (because video games), the worst part came from the game first telegraphing the way around some burning debris, only for the solution second-time around to be "Leap straight over it". Such a daft sequence of events led to thousands of players being completely stuck, doomed to die over and over until they realised "Hey, you're supposed to jump INTO the flames".
But of course.
Honestly, if we're ever to catalogue the abject worst parts of Assassin's Creed that contributed to making people give up on the franchise, they'd start right here.
