10 Severely Underrated Star Wars Games You Must Play

5. Star Wars: Republic Commando

Republic Commando is the game that Mass Effect would have been, had it been in first-person. And if you€™re being compared to Mass Effect, then you must be doing something right. The HUD for Republic Commando shows you the view from inside the main character€™s helmet, complete with targeting visor, which while some may find annoying after a while, I personally think is a really cool touch that more games should include. Gameplay is relatively standard, being a first-person shooter €“ enemies appear throughout the level, and it€™s your job to complete objectives whilst shooting them with bullets until they€™re no longer a problem. There aren€™t many huge innovations here, although the tactical controls are impressive (for the time). Basically, you have a degree of control over what your NPC squadmates are doing €“ you can assign them to vantage points for sniping, or to take a guard position whilst hacking through a door, for example. However, when not assigned to a particular role, the NPCs will default to their preferred positions, making transitions relatively seamless. Additionally, you don€™t €œlose€ until all of your squad is incapacitated, and each member can revive any other €“ including you, which is very handy in tight spots. Despite the lack of Jedi and lightsabers, this is well worth picking up if you can.
