10 Simple Facts Most Gamers Don't Know
1. RollerCoaster Tycoon Was Programmed By Just ONE Person
RollerCoaster Tycoon is one of the most iconic video games of all time, proving critically and commercially successful enough to launch a beloved franchise. But did you know that the game was programmed entirely by just a single person?
That's right. RollerCoaster Tycoon was the brainchild of designer Chris Sawyer, who developed the game code himself over a two-year period, while hiring artist Simon Foster to model the game's graphics.
Sawyer even invited friends and family to play-test the game at first, until publisher Hasbro Interactive made professional bug-testers available to him.
Thanks to the shocking lack of overheads, Sawyer ended up netting himself a sizable fortune when the game was released and became an overnight commercial goliath, receiving around $30 million in royalties.
