7. Spreading Themselves Too Thin
If GTA fans are being honest with themselves, scale is important in the new game. GTA 6 is something Rockstar have had around five years to work on already, and the bustling metropolis in 5 showed the potential for a bigger, more interactive playground.
The map's size will be a key talking point once the game gets released, and maybe even before then if the developers drop a few hints here and there.
People demand bigger environments from their games nowadays, and this is something GTA's creators are surely aware of. There's one slight worry with the pressure that's putting on them to deliver scale: it could, in theory, mean Rockstar end up spreading themselves too thin and develop an empty sandbox obsessed with sheer mass rather than things to do on that land.
Speaking for himself, this writer would much rather a smaller, tightly-controlled area that's bristling with life. Mafia III, for all that game's positives, had a lot of unused space that made lengthy trips between objectives more of an excuse to jam along with classic rock tracks than pay attention.
