10 Simulator Games You Won't Believe Exist

7. World of Subways

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt7r8ORW624 It's probably worth giving the World of Subways series some context. We don't have a whole lot against train sims; Microsoft Train Simulator has always been a pretty dull but relaxing series of games that we can all imagine our grandads playing as their introduction into PC gaming, soaking in the poorly-rendered expanses as they plough through the countryside. World of Subways, however, will excite roughly no-one, because there is no lovely countryside, there's no pixellated wildlife to gaze upon, and almost the entirety of the game is about driving through dingy tunnels, transporting miserable passengers to their next destination, before they depart and the next shuttle-load of saps get on. To its credit, its depiction of the London Underground is relatively accurate, in reflecting the sheer, soulless monotony of it, the monochrome colour, the imposing darkness, and the odd slivers of light that provide occasional respite. It's just difficult to imagine beyond being a training tool for Transport For London what purpose this soul-destroying game really serves at all.
