10 Skyrim Easter Eggs, Secrets & References You Totally Missed

7. Bolar’s Oathblade

This one is a weapon that’s fairly tricky to get as it involves specific timing and once you’ve missed it, you’re out of luck.

In Bloated Man’s Grotto you can find a unique Blades Sword called Bolar’s Oathblade, named for its previous owner Acilius Bolar who fought off the Thalmor when they attacked Cloud Ruler Temple. That sentence will make a lot of sense if you’re an Elder Scrolls fan and will be complete gibberish if you’re not. After Bolar’s death the blade was stored at the foot of the Shrine of Talos in the grotto along with his written oath that states if you’re worthy you can take up the blade.

Well, you’re the Dragonborn, so of course you’re worthy, but unfortunately it’s not quite that simple.

You see, if you rocked up here after completing the Ill Met By Moonlight quest the sword wouldn’t be there and you’d have to wait an in-game month for the grotto to reset and the sword to be back, though this time it can be found on the ground between the state and nearby table.
