10 Smartest Horror Video Game Decisions
5. Vampyr – Choose Who You Feed On Carefully
Dontnod Entertainment established themselves with Life Is Strange, so Vampyr was a surprising next step upon its reveal. Set during the Spanish Flu pandemic, it focused on Dr Jonathan Reid, a London-based doctor turned Vampire that struggles between his duty of care and newfound bloodthirsty nature.
How you decide to balance these urges is down to the player, allowing the story to develop in different ways, but Vampyr does its best to entice you into feeding on civilians, offering EXP boosts depending on who you killed.
If you decide to feed upon an NPC, you need to approach this carefully. The wrong person can lock you out of story segments permanently, alongside affecting the district’s health rating.
One example is Dorothy Crane and with her, you’ll be given a choice to spare. It's tempting to just take an EXP boost but on the flipside, she can also cure the sick and her absence sees more people falling ill, dropping her district’s health rating.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t kill anyone at all, if you’re not on a pacifist run that is, but it pays off to consider your target.
