10 Smartest Horror Video Game Decisions

4. Prey – Avoid The Alien Ugrade Implants

Until Dawn
Arkane

Prey had a troubled development history before its eventual release in 2017. Initially planned as a sequel to the 2006 Prey game, it saw a reboot under Arkane Studios and Bethesda that received critical acclaim.

Set in 2035, you play as Morgan Yu, a researcher aboard space station Talos I which is designed to research the Typhon, an alien species discovered decades previously. Waking up several years after a Typhon attack leaves you knocked out, you discover they’ve taken over Talos I and how you handle this threat is up to you.

During the course of the game, you’ll unlock new abilities through different skill trees such as boosting your engineering or physician capabilities. Later on, you gain the ability to directly research Typhons and unlock new neuromod abilities, which can bestow their abilities onto you.

But of course, there’s a catch to this. Whilst Psychoshock and Mindjack are certainly useful abilities, upgrading yourself with more than two Typhon neuromods mean Turrets start detecting you as an alien and begin attacking.

Furthermore, upgrades also cause Nightmares to spawn and outside the Apex Typhon, these are some of the toughest creatures you’ll encounter. Choosing these alien neuromods will also impact the ending’s dialogue by affecting the crew’s opinion of you. So choose your upgrades wisely, every decision counts here.
