Gearbox Software redeemed themselves for the abysmal Duke Nukem Forever by also giving us the brilliant Borderlands franchise - you've got to take the good with the bad sometimes. And while Duke came with his fair share of extra merch in his Balls Of Steel Edition, things are taken to a new level of extravagance for Borderlands 2, dishing up a quite literal treasure chest of gaming goodness. There were very few shortcuts taken here, resulting in a very well executed limited edition package - the kind of thing that deserves the fervent desire it conjures up from fans of the franchise. Obviously these things are blatant bait for your cash, but it's good to sometimes see expensive collector's editions which live up the PR hype - all too often the finished product is a shoddy mess compared to the original marketing photographs. For the Ultimate Loot Chest, Borderlands 2 fans are treated to an "all thriller, no filler" collection of items, packed in a sturdy replica of the kind of loot chest so eagerly sought after in the game. Lithograph art prints that you would actually consider displaying, a well made bobblehead, even a cloth map (something of a throwback obsession from the early days of game memorabilia collection), this is the kind of gluttonous package that loot hunters dream about. What's in the box: Borderlands 2 game in steelbook case; Replica loot chest; Field notes from Sir Hammerlock; Inside the Vault hardcover book; Creatures of Pandora wide format chart; Numbered certificate of authenticity; Four lithograph postcards; Four stickers; Cloth map; Markus bobblehead in vending machine box; Comic book download.
Game-obsessed since the moment I could twiddle both thumbs independently. Equally enthralled by all the genres of music that your parents warned you about.
