10 Specific Reasons To Get Hyped For 2016's Biggest Games
9. Open World, Free-Roaming Parkour - Mirror's Edge Catalyst
The original Mirror's Edge was a very underrated experience, offering incredibly smooth, first-person parkour in a world that has aged beautifully thanks to some gorgeous art direction. It certainly had flaws, but they were things that could easily be fixed in a sequel - something that was far from a certainty due to the game's lacklustre financial success. With the exception of Dying Light, there really haven't been many, if any, open-world parkour games, especially with a first-person perspective. It's a unique and rare sub-genre that Dying Light was definitely a big part of encapsulating. Catalyst will release May 24th, and it promises to give players every bit of the original's amazing fluidity when moving through the environment, mixed with a more non-linear campaign and a far more open landscape to traverse, ensuring you spend more time with Faith and her expert wall-running skills. Improvements are certainly expected in every aspect, including the removal of any gun combat in exchange for a focus on non-lethal, expert hand-to-hand animations that emphasise her running and parkour abilities. How the open-world aspect will work has yet to be shown in detail, but you can safely assume there'll be multiple, dynamic ways for Faith to reach her objectives during missions.
