Once considered to be "America's Pastime", baseball has long been a game of immense popularity. Consider, for example, the hysteria that surrounded the Chicago Cubs' recent World Series win and the end of one of sporting's most infamous jinxes and you'll understand the appeal of such a storied event.

But for something so genuinely loved, a good baseball video game is still troublingly absent. Sony's MLB series has added a modicum of playability to the sports game scene, but in truth this is purely thanks to the licensed teams and official commentators rather than any sort of solid gameplay.

This, for a sport with so many technical nuances and tense permutations, is a big shame. Using the analog controls and shoulder buttons of a console controller would be perfect for the subtle skill and technique that goes into pitching and batting could make a baseball game far more satisfyingly difficult than anything else that's been available so far.
