Rain pours in from the ceiling while the environment transforms with the clapping of thunder. We realize quickly that the Scarecrow is using his fear toxin to powerfully conjure devastating emotions from Bruce's past. Watching as the Caped Crusader hear the final words of his parents that have haunted him for his lifetime rips our hearts right out of our chest, tosses them in the dirt, and waits for that single tear to fall. Then, not only does the Rocksteady team draw us into this emotionally devastating moment of Bruce's past, but they hammer the nail in the coffin by bringing the Dark Knight to his knees. They show that behind the mask, Bruce is still just the wounded child he may forever be.
