10 Stupid Early Decisions That Ruin Entire Video Games

5. Reviving A Guardian - Destiny

As is the way with many games that are highly anticipated, Destiny's early months on the market made it clear that it was a victim of its own success.

The Bungie-developed title is one that had years of promotional material behind it, so when it released in September 2014 with a lacklustre story and simplistic level design, there were more than a few disgruntled players.

As time passed the game received content updates that made it more worthwhile, but the decision in the game's intro to have players assume the role of a previously dead guardian made for much of the additional story feel rather pointless.

In the very beginning of Destiny, Ghost resurrects the player to continue the push back against the Darkness. The guardian has no memories of the past, so there's no narrative gain to be had from their revival. It provides the game with its most significant plot hole, and the main story does nothing to explain why Ghost chose us to bring back to life.

It felt lazy, and though the original Destiny wasn't known for its stellar storytelling, this early decision in the game made many players check out entirely.
