10 Surprisingly Great Multiplayer Modes In Single-Player Games

9. Dead Space 2

The Last Of Us
EA

Dead Space 2 was a great follow-up to one of the best horror games of all-time. It lost a little something without the USG Ishimura as its setting, but it more than made up for that with a more out-there story and improved gameplay mechanics. Then there was the ill-conceived notion of a multiplayer mode.

Ill-conceived, yes. Wonderfully-crafted, no doubt. Dead Space 2 saw two sides battle it out in Team Deathmatch. Sure, that was nothing new, but one side playing as the humans and the other as necromorphs made it much more noteworthy. While the engineers used the series signature weapons to battle, the necromorphs were faster, more visceral, and utilised hand-to-claw combat. It was thrilling to be the humans, and devilishly satisfying to be the necropmorphs.

Few will ever remember Dead Space 2 for its multiplayer, but it was a great mode that added a little something to the game beyond the campaign.
