10 TERRIBLE Games That Got Great Reviews

1. Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 is one of recent gaming's prime examples of critics and players experiencing something quite different.

Though it launched to an 87 Metascore, with critics praising the racing simulator as a major return to form for the hit franchise, developers Polyphony Digital quite sneakily waited until reviews were out before switching on the game's microtransactions.

As great as Gran Turismo 7 looks and handles, the laughably lackluster single-player campaign and especially the egregiously grindy progression - which aggressively nudges players to spend real cash on in-game currency - made it one of 2022's most depressingly cynical releases.

Hell, the situation was grim enough that players resorted to using a remote play hack which allowed them to auto-play circuit races and mine credits idly, prompting Polyphony to patch the game in order to make payouts even stingier.

The contempt for their own customers is shockingly thinly veiled here, enough that Gran Turismo 7's Metacritic user score sits at a devastating 2.7 after more than 11,000 votes.

For a game that should've been an absolute slam dunk for Polyphony and Sony - the first Gran Turismo game on PS5! - to feel like a craven cash grab was genuinely hurtful to the many millions who've supported the franchise for more than 25 years.
