10 TERRIBLE Games That Got Great Reviews

2. Starfield

Now that the dust has cleared and we're in a new calendar year, it's probably time for folks to admit that Starfield just wasn't very good - at least not where the pedigree of developer Bethesda is concerned.

It's telling that IGN received a ton of flak for giving Bethesda's space-faring RPG a "mere" 7/10 - a score which in hindsight can't help but feel rather generous.

Not quite as forgiving as the 83 Metascore, though, which would lead you to believe that Starfield may not quite hit the highs of the studio's best work, but it's still a damn fun time.

Yet in the months since Starfield's release, the Internet seems to have slowly accepted the idea that it's just not very good, as evidenced by it starting 2024 with "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam.

Everything here feels like another studio trying to make a Bethesda game, except the storyline isn't interesting, the quests and characters lack charm and personality, exploring planets is boring, and the "unlock-a-power" mini-game might be the single laziest thing the studio has ever done.

For a publisher that's put out so many richly crafted games to deliver something so bland, even soulless, and for critics to largely trip over themselves to praise it, is absolutely head-scratching.
