10 Terrible Levels That Haunt Otherwise Perfect Video Games

1. The Hospital - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Everyone knows that the Metal Gear Solid series has featured some pretty unusual stages over the years. Nothing in the franchise's history could ever have prepared players for the sheer, slap-you-in-the-face frustration of the opening mission in Metal Gear Solid V.

Having players slowly awake with grave injuries in a hospital bed, the game initially makes you think time will keep on passing until you can happily hop out of the bed and go about your mercenary business. Instead what you actually get is an extended set of sequences where you have to crawl and fall around as the game completely undermines every movement you try to make.

The intention was probably to get some gravity in the opening and to show just how dire the situation at the outset really is. Unfortunately this just doesn't translate into the finished piece at all and the result is an opening stage that threatened to derail the success of Metal Gear Solid V before it even had a chance to get going.

Let's hope Death Stranding doesn't have us crawling around a beach as a naked Norman Reedus for the first hour...
