10 Terrible Video Games With Incredible Endings
7. Sonic Unleashed (2008)
Sonic Unleashed will always have a special place in this author's heart, but there's no denying it remains one of the most controversial entries in the blue hedgehog's franchise.
Coming out on the back of the infamous titles Sonic 06 and Shadow the Hedgehog, the future of the series was resting on Sonic Team getting their act together for Unleashed; the decision, therefore, to have roughly half the game played in an all-new 'Werehog' form was certainly bold.
The Werehog portions of the game drew almost all the criticism from fans and critics upon release, with complaints being drawn towards the clunky mechanics, slow-paced level design, combat, and frustrating platforming.
But, whilst Unleashed might not be the perfect Sonic title, its ending remains one of the most fulfilling the series has ever managed. Unlike most titles in the series, the bulk of the game is spent solely around Chip, Sonic's companion, who players run into at the start of the game and attempt to uncover his identity. The game's finale not only answers this question but also has a fitting sign-off for the character with the pair teaming up to defeat Dark Gaia, save the world and bid a final farewell to one another.
