Super Mario 64 revolutionised gaming forever when it was released all the way back in 1996, changing the landscape forever with its smooth controls and series of vast open worlds. It also contains the usual friendly story of the Italian plumber saving his beloved Princess Peach from the clutches of the evil Koopa King, Bowser.

For the most part, the game is a collection of fun and colourful open worlds set around Peach's castle, rewarding the player for taking things chill and enjoying their surroundings.

However, that all changes when you wander out into the Princess' courtyard, beat the Boos that have made their home outside and fly into the small cage containing King Boo's haunted house.

From spinning eyeballs, spooky coffins, haunted bookshelves, sneaky ghosts and the big bad King himself, wherever you go in the level there's something on hand to send a quick shiver down your spine. Boo's house also possesses possibly the only jump scare in Mario history, with the downstairs piano leaping into life and trying to gobble you up the second you get too close.
