10 Terrifying Video Game Bosses You Felt Bad For

7. Scarecrow - Arkham Asylum

One of Batman's oldest and most sinister foes, Scarecrow is an individual who has experienced life's hardships first hand. Having been bulled relentlessly as a child, Scarecrow grew up using his impressive intellect to study fears and phobias before developing a hallucination-inducing nerve gas.

When The Joker takes over Arkham Asylum, he proclaims that Scarecrow is on his 'party list', sets him free of his cell and watches on as the baddie once again embarks on a mission of grossing us out with some nasty-sounding experiments whilst simultaneously attempting to break Batman's mind through his nerve gas.

He makes his way down into the asylum sewers, threatening to dump his fear toxins into the water and unleashing it into the Gotham City waterworks. That is where the good times end for Scarecrow in this game however, failing to realise that the sewers are where Killer Croc is hiding out.

Mistaking him for one of the guards, Killer Croc jumps out of the water and begins attacking Scarecrow in a truly brutal manner.

His nightmare sequences might have been terrifying, however there's something about Scarecrow's tough upbringing and brutal beating from Killer Croc that really makes players end up feeling a little sorry for this version of the bad guy.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
