10 Terrifying Video Game Enemies That Gave You Nightmares

3. Nemesis - Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

In the first two Resident Evil games you were tasked with dispatching enemies that were largely animalistic, the Zombies craved flesh, the hunters were aggressive killers, the Tyrant/Mr. X operated under commands and William Birkin's mutated form was killing to survive, rather than hunt. For the third game, Capcom decided to change things up a bit and pit you against an intelligent, brutal killing machine and thus, Nemesis was born. Nemesis is a bio-organic-weapon engineered to be the ultimate hunter, he is intelligent and can make decisions for himself, he can wield weapons (in the form of a rocket launcher strapped to his arm) and possesses regenerative abilities meaning you can't actually kill him. Worst of all, he is fast and whereas in previous games if you were overwhelmed you could just leave the room, he will chase you from room to room. Most unsettling of all, whenever you encounter him the screen will go negative and you will hear him utter "S.T.A.R.S." in a demonic growl. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oPLhQyns2o The Nemesis haunted the dreams of gamers around the world, never had they fought a creature so aggressive and relentless who could not be bested. If you were lucky you could knock him unconscious long enough to run away but he would always come back and always when you least wanted him to. Trying to run from him with RE's notorious tank controls was an absolute nightmare and further added to the terror you would feel when you heard his deathly voice.

I am a man of many interests. I am a passionate gamer, running my own YouTube channel (The Gadget Addicts) showing off the best of modern gaming in the form of Let's Play videos. I am an ardent musician, having been a guitarist for the past 13 years. I am also a massive geek, I adore science fiction and fantasy films and TV shows and am trying to work up the courage to start writing a novel. If I can ever think of a good story to tell... I live with my wife in the North East of England and own a belligerent little black cat.
