10 Things Alien: Isolation Will Do Better Than Aliens: Colonial Marines
10. The Graphics
Aliens: Colonial Marines had shockingly bad graphics. Despite being released at the tail end of the last console generation, it looked like a high resolution game from the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation. It is a truly ugly game, especially on the consoles, where low resolution textures, consistent aliasing, and annoying pop-ins cripple any attempts at immersion. Overall, the lack of polish and attention to detail made it feel like an unfinished game. By comparison, take one look at Alien: Isolation in motion and you can instantly tell that it looks better by a thousand times. The graphical quality is up to standard with the expectations of this console generation, enhanced by incredible lighting which - given the subject matter and genre of game - is so important in immersing the player. Environments look photorealistic and little details like dust particles floating in the atmosphere only enhance that. The character models and facial animations are expressive and lifelike, unlike the stiff and lifeless characters in Colonial Marines. All this contributes to the more polished feel of Isolation, which gives us confidence that it was given the proper time to develop.
