10 Things Alien: Isolation Will Do Better Than Aliens: Colonial Marines

3. The Characters

Colonial Marines had bland, generic characters. Most of the cast was comprised of stereotypical space marines with little discernible personality between them. Cameron€™s marines may have had their archetypes, but they all had moments to shine and develop their characters. In Colonial Marines it is almost painful how much the game tries to replicate the banter that made Aliens so famous. And that€™s all Colonial Marines is: a soulless copy. Much like the mystery surrounding the story, we still know next to nothing about the principle cast. We know Ripley€™s daughter Amanda is the main protagonist whom the player controls, as well as the names of some of the supporting characters, but other than that we don€™t know much else. And while that leaves the quality of the characters at question, it is not difficult to be better than those in Colonial Marines; so much so that we are extremely confident that they will be. Again, Isolation€™s characters could be pretty basic and/or bland, and they will still be better. Just by virtue of not being marines for once gives the characters of Isolation the upper hand. That€™s what happens when the bar has been set so low by your predecessor.
