10 Things An Xbox Player Learned Playing Uncharted For The First Time
3. The Antagonists Are A Little Too 'Hollywood' At Times
As a long loved staple of the PlayStation brand, it's difficult to point out many irredeemable aspects of Uncharted, not least of which in the series' three major storylines. Naughty Dog can quite safely rest assured that they have created some of the most iconic and absorbing video game characters to have graced consoles over the past decade, as well as some intense and immensely creative plots as well. If there was anything the studio had yet to get right however, it would be their antagonists.
Whether it be Lazarevic in Uncharted 2 or Talbot in Drake's Deception, all of the series' villains leave much to be desired. They're clichéd, and suffer as a result of their unoriginality - instantly becoming derisible rather than threatening or compelling. This is important because in all three games most of the time spent is with Nate, Elena and Sully, so the more infrequent the appearance of the villain, the more impactful they should be.
Sadly, the series fails to deliver on that, instead offering bland caricatures of the British and Russian variety who chalk up their most powerful motivations to a stereotypical lust for power, or worse, nothing at all. It can feel as though their only purpose is to fill a necessary component of the plot - a bad guy players get to shoot at the end of their journey. Nothing more, nothing less.
