10 Things Capcom Wants You To Forget About Resident Evil

5. The Whole 'Resident Evil 5 Is Racist' Saga

Resident Evil 5 features series favourite Chris Redfield as the main character. One of the characters available to gamers in the very first Resi, Redfield promised to be an ass-kicking return to form in 5. Whilst the game did have supporters, it was another step in the wrong direction for the series. Things all started badly with the original trailer, which had people claiming Capcom were racists. In the trailer, Redfield was shown entering an African village and slaying many of the local residents. Of course, Redfield is a Caucasian male, whereas the locals were black skinned. The story wasn't really fleshed out in the slightest, the developers simply portrayed Redfield as someone who was murdering the indigenous population for the sake of it. This led to a lot of negativity over the trailer. Of course, Capcom weren't being racist, they merely failed to present any of the plot. In the game, local residents have been infected by bio-terrorism, and thus have no control over their aggressive actions. In reality, Redfield is just defending himself, but Capcom didn't explain that. It was sensationalist to claim racism over the game trailer, but it's a time Capcom would like to forget.
