10 Things In Outer Wilds That Will Blow Your Mind

The best space adventure puzzle game in the universe.

Mobius Digital released their first game, Outer Wilds, back in May 2019. Since then, the game has amassed a cult following. Thousands of supportive fans, drawn in through a profound story, well executed mechanics and palpable atmosphere. Things that lead to myself wholeheartedly joining them recently.

I imagine many more are coming, thanks to the games Steam release this week.

Equal parts single player adventure, space explorer, puzzler and simulation, there's a lot to love.

The standard of the execution within this mixing pot of genres is outstanding, one that will easily keep you flying excitedly through its 12-15 hour playtime. Very impressive for a game that repeats itself on a time loop.

Although remember, putting on your spacesuit is not about the destination. Its about the journey you will go on. Even if there are things you don't particularly want to be privy too while hurtling along the way. So buckle yourself in and grab some burnt marshmallows.

The highlights of this modern space epic are going to be held up yet again in 2020, to make sure you're aware of this indie gem - of what makes Outer Wilds so special.

10. The Ending

Its always satisfying when a great game comes to a even better conclusion. Thankfully Outer Wilds does this. Crafting an impactful, memorable ending that is shrouded in a deep sense of inevitability but simultaneously a strong sense of hope.

Even so its hard to get invested unless there is a strong narrative throughout a game. Outer wilds builds up to its fantastic final act by telling a tale of a race of intergalactic nomads called 'Nomai'. Who are hell bent on discovering the origin and meaning of the universe.

Ultimately you are left to conclude the Nomai story for them. Curiosity takes over and you spiral through the star system finding out how deep into the rabbit hole they went. It turns out very deep. The story holds heart wrenching, and joyful moments. Moments that push you toward the conclusion; which will always come too quickly.

The final chapter is the most stressful fetch quest imaginable; one that hides the hardest and most rewarding puzzle in the game. In the end all of this pays off with a revelation about the ill fated final venture for the Nomai in a very emotional pay off.

There is encore of both characters and music in the final moments that really leaves an impression that most AAA games cant hope to achieve.
