10 Things In Outer Wilds That Will Blow Your Mind
7. The Dark Bramble
The cripplingly claustrophobic fog of the dark bramble draws parallels to sailing in severe visibility. It's unnerving not being able to see what's immediately in front of you. The mystery of it makes you feel like an explorer of the unknown.
You'll be drawn in further by distant radio signals and you'll experience the dimensional dissonance within. Furthering the sense of disorientation. Here of all places, lying in wait are the games apex predators. The anglerfish. They Push home a sense of hopelessness. You are not supposed to be there.
However its when you're on the final mission to finish what the Nomai started, where this place truly shines. The time limit and sense of importance of the task at hand make every minute inside the bramble tense; the anglerfish feeling for your movement in the dark take this to the extreme.
The place is designed to make the player sweat and feel stressed. It does so to wonderful effect. The sense of achievement from exploring it fully is one the best rewards in the game. It's so well designed as a final hurdle to overcome that it is worth fully taking it in.
You'll get to do so, because you die here... a lot.
