10 Things No One Wants To Admit About Bethesda RPGs
1. They're Better Without Companions
Whether it's Fawkes, Nick Valentine, Andreja, or Dogmeat the team at Bethesda excel at creating companion characters who are just as endearing as they are memorable.
Companions bring a lot of personality to their respective game. with their rich backstories and vibrant personalities making getting to know each of them more than worth players' time. The ability to take companions along for the ride therefore sounds like a great idea on paper. Alongside hearing their input during quests, having an extra pair of hands during fights and to carry gear can also be incredibly useful.
However, having a companion tag along is an effective way to make these games less fun to play.
In addition to them falling so far behind that they might as well not be there most of the time, their shoddy AI often sees them attacking NPCs they shouldn't, which can unintentionally break some quests. And don't even think about trying to use stealth when a companion is present, because they will get spotted.
Although Bethesda's vast worlds may seem a little lonelier while travelling them solo, enduring the solitude is far better than dealing with the various problems that companions cause.
