10 Things No One Wants To Admit About Red Dead Redemption 2

1. It Lacks The Emotion Of Its Predecessor

There's no arguing with the fact that Rockstar has delivered yet another thoroughly engaging, character-driven cinematic story here, but despite its more epic scope than the previous game, it falls a little short when it comes to the emotional stakes.

Red Dead Redemption had such a brilliant and surprisingly poignant finale which caught just about everybody off-guard, but the sequel's emotional through-line isn't anywhere near as pronounced.

Part of the problem is that players have a better idea of what to expect this time, and with the game being a prequel, there are a pretty finite number of directions in which the story and some of its characters can go.

When RDR2 ends, it certainly doesn't leave the player cold, but there's absolutely nothing here on the level of John Marston's final stand at the end of the last game. There's no shame in it, really, but it's still disappointing that the game doesn't even begin to hit the same visceral note that its predecessor did.
