10 Things No One Wants To Admit About Red Dead Redemption 2

7. It's Punishingly Slow & Restrictive At Times

Make no mistake about it, RDR2 is one slow game. If you think you can just sail through the story in 15-20 hours, think again, because Rockstar makes every effort to slow you down, grab you by the head and point you in the direction of every laborious, meticulous detail they've populated this world with.

Whether you're spending numerous minutes planting dynamite charges in a story mission or forced to ride your horse for upwards of 10 minutes due to the game's meagre fast travel options, Rockstar quite stubbornly grinds the player to a near-halt as much as possible.

Sure, it's neat walking around your camp the first few times, by once you're 20+ hours deep, you really just want to do what you want to do without stopping to smell the roses too much.

That's not to forget the molasses-slow speed of even basic animations for opening drawers, looting enemies and so on: they can take upwards of five seconds each, and if you've got a lot of looting to do following a 20-man shootout, it can feel rather maddening.

This is Rockstar's consistent prerogative, sure, but would it have killed them to include some accessibility options for instant fast travel and skippable animations for those who perhaps don't have as much time to spare in their lives?

In this aspect the developer does come across as a touch arrogant, wilfully imposing tedious impositions on the player fully in the knowledge that you'll put up with it because it's a Rockstar game.
