10 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Final Fantasy XV

5. None Of The Music Is Memorable

If I played you something like the main theme of Final Fantasy VII, FF VIII's Balamb Garden or the open-world score from Final Fantasy VI, chances are you'd be overwhelmed with not just nostalgia, but a genuine fondness for the emotive power of what Square's various composers achieved in their respective time period.

By contrast, FF XV's various pieces of music are drastically weaker when held side by side. You can tell composer Yoko Shimomura was shooting for themes like 'epic' and 'grandiose' (hence the use of choirs and endless string sections), but right now, I challenge you to hum back any part of them, if remember them at all.

There's absolutely nothing objectively wrong with the pieces of music we're given, and on its own, this is still a sumptuously gorgeous soundtrack, but when held up against the caliber of what went before - and considering the life-defining highs we've heard multiple times over - FF XV just pales in comparison on the audio front.

All of which contributes to an overall experience that aims to please a ton of different wider demographics, neglecting the core fanbase that got the franchise where it is today.
