No talk of loot boxes or micro-transactions here.... Move along.

When it comes to unlocking new characters and costumes, Battlefront II uses (primarily) in-game credits which are accrued throughout matches.

The prices are not uniform (the puns are strong in this one), however, with particular characters and costumes costing much more than others.

Obviously, there's a fine balance to strike between making things too easy to unlock on the one hand, and rendering it a chore on the other.

Battlefront II, however, arguably leans too far to the Dark Side in this regard.

Take for example the "Beckett's Crew" Han Solo skin (modelled on "Solo" actor Alden Ehrenreich), and the ridiculously cool "Old Master" appearance for Darth Maul.

These are two highly coveted unlockables, whose barrier to entry are simply too high.

The young Han Solo skin will set you back 80,000 Credits which, considering a modest player putting in a modest performance will win between 300-500 credits per match, will take a LONG time to build up.

Unlocking the undeniably sexy Maul appearance is arguably worse; requiring the player to perform FIVE THOUSAND kills with any Dark Side villain - that's a lot, man.

Hopefully the unlock system will be fairer in BF III, should it ever materialise.
