10 Things Open-World Games Need To STOP DOING
3. Gimmicky Side Missions
When it comes to open worlds, developers often need to flesh out their settings with things to do other than the main storyline to keep players occupied. And often times side missions can be a great way for games to flex their creativity, and for players to immerse themselves in the world a little more.
But, when it comes to immersion-breaking gimmicky side quests, we draw the line.
These missions will often require players to beat up a certain amount of enemies, herd some characters or creatures, collect a certain amount of items or run through a certain amount of gates before a time limit.
Almost all are filler tasks designed to beef up the game with more things to do, and unfortunately, most of the time these missions need to be completed for 100% completion, making for a mandatory slog if you really want your money's worth.
