10 Things Red Dead Redemption 2 Must Learn From GTA V
8. Keep The Feel Of The Franchise
One of the main reasons GTA V was such a huge return to form, was due to going back to how crazy the original GTA games felt. Although many players felt that CJ breaking into Area 69 to then fly out with a jetpack was far too much, there were thousands of us who absolutely adored this moment. GTA's III and Vice City kept themselves relatively grounded, but in a move that would inspire the direction Saints Row would go, this more 'whacky' way of creating missions sits very well in the GTA canon - albeit by finding a good balance between this and the rather stale GTA IV. For Red Dead though it's the opposite of flying off the handle. Part of the reason the game is regarded so highly is because of it's incredibly well-told, believable story. There are a heft of comparisons to the GTA games in terms of the on-screen elements and things like the movement/shooting controls, but as with the Rockstar-published L.A. Noire the game itself has a drastically different feel to that of the satire-filled crime series.
