10 Things That Gamers Today Will Never Experience

1. No Install

The excitement of getting a brand new game has a new caveat that began with the PS3/360 era: You must wait, even in front of the system itself, to play it.

Since the earliest days of gaming, whether it was putting a quarter into the Space Invaders machine or plugging in your Banjo-Kazooie cartridge, you could jump straight into your game of choice and enjoy it. Since the gaming industry has now moved to Blu-Ray discs and digital titles, that is now a thing of the past as your games must now be installed directly onto your chosen system.

These install times can be small depending on the game, but for some of the bigger AAA games, you could sometimes be waiting hours to play your game. And sometimes the full game isn't on the disc, so there will be a day 1 patch that installs the rest which means waiting even longer!

A recent example was the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, where only the first game was included on the disc and the other two had to be downloaded, or Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, where the first patch was about twice the size of the game itself, and barely fixed any of it's problems.

Waiting for these installs turn the anticipation of a new game into frustration and impatience, and because of the size of new games now, it is a necessity. So a simple plug-in-and-play has gone the way of EA's reputation, i.e. 6-feet under.
