10 Things Uncharted 4 Already Does Better Than Quantum Break
6. Characters You Actually Care About
Speaking of characters, the most enjoyment you'll get out of Quantum Break's comes from just watching the actors play them. As I've already mentioned, Jack Joyce is a cog in the story, a 'hero' talked about by side-characters as being important, but who is more defined by Shawn 'Iceman' Ashmore. Similarly, villains Aidan 'Littlefinger' Gillen and Lance 'Evil Mysterious Dude In Everything' Reddick, all play one-dimensional characters whose motivations pivot as the story dictates, as oppose to any real sense of internal logic.
By contrast, we get more character-building and drive from the opening shot of Uncharted 4 showing Drake stamping letters amidst a tiny office, than we do in the entirety of Quantum Break when it comes to its main players and why they're doing what they're doing. Drake's reaction to Sam being alive is a genuine moment of confusion, happiness and an influx of emotion that almost makes him black out - it's realistic and human in a way that's necessary to ground the risks of what they're about to undertake.
Quantum Break has none of this, and although you may find yourself caring about its characters by sheer definition of them being onscreen, the script doesn't supplement that with any real meaning.
