10 Things We Desperately Hope To See In The Mortal Kombat Film

8. Shao Kahn's Introduction

MORTAL KOMBAT
Warner Bros

Shao Kahn may not be as powerful as Onaga, Blaze, or Kronika but there is no doubt that the skull-masked dictator is the central antagonist of Mortal Kombat. Considering he has served as the final boss more than anyone in the series and has been an eternal thorn in Raiden's side (and Earthrealm in general), there is no question Shao Khan's presence will linger in the upcoming movie.

But in what capacity? Although the trailer revealed a statue of Shao Kahn, it is unknown whether the Outworld emperor will be making a physical appearance. Even if the spear-hurling, hammer-smashing tyrant shows up, it will probably be in flashback or as a cameo, similar to his appearance in the original film adaptation.

Now, Simon McQuoid's film shouldn't focus on Shao Kahn but it can't leave him out either. Outworld is his domain. The putdown-churning ruler is known in every realm that has participated in Mortal Kombat. The filmmakers need to let the film stand on its own but carefully set up Shao Kahn since it's likely he will serve as the franchise's big bad.
