10 Things We Desperately Want From Resident Evil 8

9. Deeper Story Connections

Resident Evil 7 was the soft-reboot that the franchise needed to re-establish itself as the king of survival horror. It took many cues from the likes of Outlast and P.T. and - much like the original games - even paid tribute to classic horror films such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Evil Dead.

In guiding the series down this strange new path, Capcom had to introduce a fresh cast of characters to tell the story. We certainly welcomed the change, but upon playing Resident Evil 7 to completion, fans were a little underwhelmed by the lack of connectivity to the series' ongoing narrative.

Granted there were some hidden easter-eggs and references littered throughout the campaign, and the sudden appearance of Chris Redfield in the game's closing moments was appreciated, but overall it felt completely disconnected from what came before and we're still not entirely sure what the significance of it all was.

It's likely that Village is going to rectify that, given Chris's prominent role in the trailer, so let's hope that we'll see an abundance of connective tissue that ties both Biohazard and Village into the series wider mythology.
