On the same theme, with Batman: Arkham City introducing the wider bat-family and Dick Grayson and Tim Drake accounted for, it left fans wondering: where did Jason Todd fit into this universe?

Eventually, they'd get their answer (and probably be extremely annoyed by it) in Arkham Knight, which cast Todd as the primary, titular antagonist. The game extensively focused on flashbacks of his demise at the hands of the Joker, leading to his eventual villain turn and vendetta against Batman.

While comic fans might have pieced this together anyway, it was also hinted at in the DLC challenge rooms for Arkham City. While playing as Robin, Joker will remark: "Wait, didn't I kill you already? No? Well, there's always time." In a less concrete reference during Asylum as well, Joker comments that Batman is in need of a new sidekick, potentially because he recently murdered one of them.

Whether Jason Todd's major role in the story was always planned is anyone's guess, but it's clear that Rocksteady wanted players to know he was part of this world.
